English 101 Post-Writing Essay December 11, 2015 Coloring my World Hey you! Yes, you, in the back, come on move in closer. All FCCLA kids can you hear me? There I was, giving the first sentence of my first real speech. Me, onstage, running for regional president, the Missouri FCCLA Region 2 Voting Delegates hanging on my every word. My first experience on stage had proved to me and those around that public speaking is my niche, the stage was nothing for me to be scared of, and I deserved all I was about to get. Our first stop here at the Crayola factory, where we are known for coloring our world, is the memory room, as you walk through this room write your name anywhere you choose to leave your mark here at Crayola. I know most of you are used to leaving your mark in FCCLA. This speech, and that very moment left its mark on me. I had snapped into my speech, my voice, my motions, I was hooked and the audience was too. Nothing can beat the feeling of me overcoming my fears. To speak in front of a crowd that is cheering me along every step of the way was inspiring. That point in my life, reading that speech inspired me to continue to run for office and to continue in the spotlight. As you look to your left you can see the crayons being molded, just like FCCLA can mold each and every one of you. I gave the delegates a basic comparison of how they, like the crayons, will be molded into the people they want to become. With FCCLA, they could melt away their problems and form into the students they chose to be. It wasn’t until I was on stage giving this very speech that I realized this experience would mold me for the rest of my life. This moment changed the way I viewed myself and gave me the confidence to run for multiple offices in the future. Now for our last stop at the Crayola Factory, the creativity room. Cut, color, paint, or paste - the only rule in this room is to enjoy the time you have in it. If I would have known how hard it would be to get the feeling of my first time on stage back, I might have never left. That moment was a defining point in my life. The greatest rewards in my life have come from doing the activities that scared me the most. The thought of losing my first chance to hold an office terrified me. Looking back, the office I was elected to did not matter as much as being onstage. I realized in that small amount of time, public speaking was for me, and every office I would run for after that would not be as hard as I had originally thought. Enjoy the time you have left here at the crayola factory and remember it’s never as hard as you think to color your world. |
